2024: A Year of Empowering Young Minds and Securing Futures with GAMSU

This year, GAMSU continued its mission of advancing education and creating opportunities for underserved children, making significant strides toward a brighter and more equitable future. From innovative learning programs to fostering safe educational spaces, GAMSU remained steadfast in its commitment to transforming lives, one child at a time.

Championing Access to Education with Dolly Children Foundation

For over four years, GAMSU has supported the Dolly Children Foundation (DCF) in its annual Summer/Back to School Program—this year known as Summer 8.0. This initiative offers children invaluable opportunities to learn, grow, and prepare for the new school year. To mark Children’s Day 2024, GAMSU contributed significantly to the Summer 8.0 program by donating 150 branded school bags, 2,000 exercise books, and 500 pens, ensuring participating children had the essential tools for learning.

In addition to its support for the Summer 8.0 program, GAMSU extended its reach by aiding Gratis School in Lokogoma, Abuja, a tuition-free institution for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Furthermore, GAMSU funded the fees of 12 summer teachers who facilitated sessions in mentoring, coding, and motion graphics.

This effort particularly benefited children in the Magboro/Makogi areas of Ogun State, equipping them with digital and creative skills through hands-on coding classes, an effort which builds on the Foundation’s 2022 collaboration with REEL Foundation through the provision of 10 laptops. The equipment have powered three consecutive years of digital literacy programs equipping children with hands-on experience.

This year's Summer 8.0 program impacted 7,900 children across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Abuja, fostering both academic and personal growth. GAMSU’s ongoing partnership with DCF highlights its commitment to creating transformative educational opportunities, empowering children to thrive and build a brighter future.

Fueling Innovation and Celebrating Genius

During the summer, GAMSU partnered with Destiny Trust for the annual Kids Innovation Challenge—a pan-Nigeria hackathon and technology showcase that celebrates young innovators from less-privileged backgrounds.

As part of this initiative, GAMSU provided meals for 100 children during the program and engaged directly with participants through a motivational talk. This program emphasizes GAMSU’s belief in nurturing critical thinking, digital literacy, and innovation among the next generation, aligning with SDG 4: Quality Education.

Creating Safe Spaces for Learning

GAMSU also launched the Ideal Classroom Project at Girls Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale, in Ndokwa West, Delta State. Founded in 1980, the school serves approximately 1,500 students but faced significant security challenges due to the absence of a perimeter fence.

Recognizing the urgent need for protection, GAMSU undertook the construction and rehabilitation of the school’s boundary fence, addressing insecurity that had left young girls vulnerable. By securing the school’s perimeter, GAMSU fosters an environment where girls can focus on their education without fear or distraction.

Supporting Young Athletes and Community Development

GAMSU’s commitment to education and community development extended to various initiatives throughout the year. It began with a significant donation towards Government College Ughelli’s water project, aimed at improving the school’s infrastructure and ensuring access to clean water.

Later, GAMSU supported the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA) for the annual GCU Relays, which brought together 300 talented young athletes from 30 secondary schools across the region. GAMSU’s support was pivotal to the event's success, earning the foundation an Award of Excellence from GCUOBA.

Through these initiatives, GAMSU is not just addressing immediate needs but is building a foundation for lifelong learning, innovation, and empowerment. Each child reached represents a step closer to a world where education is a right, not a privilege—a world where every child can thrive.

Together, we continue to advance the vision of SDG 4: Quality Education. One child, one student, one community, one impact at a time.
